Simple homemade chocolate liqueur
Winter is time for chocolate, sweets, cuddles and home: that’s the reason why if you can make your own liqueur, for a gift or for yourself, this is the time of the year! In case you don’t know, the chocolate liqueur is one of the pleasure we have in Italy (and maybe not only in Italy!): simple and easy to make, it only needs kindness but the taste is gorgeous!
You can drink it alone or pairing with sweet truffles or cookies; just pay attention because it’s highly addictive and highly alcoholic!
What is required for 1 liter of chocolate liqueur
80 grams of cocoa powder
250 grams of sugar
1/2 liter of milk
1/2 liter of double cream (NOT whipped)
150 grams of pure alcohol
1. Mix 2 cups of milk with the cocoa in a pan and make sure to remove all the lumps with the aid of a whip or a fork.
2. Put the pot on the stove and add all the remaining milk and cream so, stirring constantly, bring to a boil and cook for about 10/15 minutes so as to restrict the cream.
3. Strain the milk chocolate in a bowl and then let cool. Once completely cool add, stirring well and continually, all the alcohol. Put in one or more bottles and store in refrigerator and use or serve.
Note: the more this liqueur remains in the refrigerator the most it is good and tasty and can be drunk or used as a topping for cakes, ice-cream and also cappuccino 😀
Note 2: I recommend to add to the mix of milk chocolate two orange peels, slightly scratched on the surface, to be deleted once the milk is ready and just to give the chocolate liqueur a nice and warm flavor.
Advice: if you cannot find pure alcohol, just use pure vodka. Only 100 grams following these quantities!
