Negroni Cocktail Recipe

Negroni Cocktail recipe

Negroni cocktail, one of the most famous Italian cocktails along with Spritz: simple, tasty, strong, in the past it was one of the most chosen at aperitif time and after the decline of a few years ago, today it is back again. The original recipe of Negroni cocktail is really simple because there are very few ingredients required: Gin, Campari, and Vermouth.

The rebirth of this cocktail is also linked to the rebirth of two of its main ingredients, Gin and Vermouth, which today are experiencing a second youth not only in Italy but throughout the world.

The unconscious inventor was Count Camillo Negroni who used to order a stronger Americano cocktail with a dose of gin instead of soda; to personalize, even more, the coffee the barista Casoni from Firenze decided to replace the lemon present in the Americano cocktail with orange. That is how the Negroni was born as we know it and that it was, at a certain point, distorted giving life to the Sbagliato, where the sparkling wine replaces the gin.

The particularity of this cocktail is to be built directly into the glass, never shaken, and “mounted” above the ice that serves to cool the glass but also to lengthen the alcohol.

The alcohol content of the Negroni cocktail is particularly high (we are just under 30%) so although it is an extremely pleasant drink, it is good to be careful not to overdo it.

Ingredients for a glass

  • 3 cl (1 1/2 ounces) of gin
  • 3 cl (1 1/2 ounces) of Campari
  • 3 cl (1 1/2 ounces) of red vermouth
  • 1 slice of orange
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. Pour the ice into a tumbler-type glass (like this).
  2. Drain the water formed by the ice then pour all the liquid ingredients, one at a time, using a jigger (like this) and mix.
  3. Only at the end add a slice of orange.

Preparation time: 5 minutes
